The Feelers - Rockin' Raro

The Feelers Rock Raro

A Rarotonga bar crowd was treated to an impromptu live jam session by New Zealand rock legends, The Feelers, who delighted the crowd with their yet-to-be-released hot new summer single, Blue Skies.

Captivating a full house at Captain Andy’s Beach Bar & Grill @ The Rarotongan Beach Resort & Spa on Friday 16 Oct 09, The Feelers belted out Blue Skies, accompanied by fast-beat traditional Rarotongan drumming using pate and pau drums. They really captured the essence of this idyllic tropical island with such lyrics as ‘Blue skies take me away, Blue sky just a moment away’.

Band drummer Hamish Gee even pulled out a few wicked solos on the Raro drums, in the process breaking his island drum sticks!

If the reaction from the crowd is anything to go by, Blue Skies is destined to be a hit, with guests singing along, dancing and drumming their feet to the beat, and whooping in appreciation.

For over an hour the feelers continued to blow the crowd away with some of their greatest hits including Communicate, Venus, Pressure Man, As Good As It Gets, Supersystem and One World. Guests of The Rarotongan rocked the night away to these well known Kiwi songs, a great finish to a perfect blue sky day.

The next day, The Feelers went on to record their Blue Skies single in The Rarotongan’s Te Vaka Room, a grand, high-vaulted space renowned for its superb acoustics (according to some opera singers, some of the best acoustics they’ve ever come across). The guys have also recorded their Blue Skies video right here on Raro as well … awesome!

Since coming together in 1993, The Feelers have toured the world for over 10 years, releasing 5 multi-platinum albums and playing over 1000 shows. It was absolutely amazing to have them play at The Rarotongan – The Feelers definitely rocked Raro!
